Leading Educational Publisher
Announces Kindle-Ready Titles
Prestwick House Releases 98 titles
ready for use on the Amazon Kindle
In
conjunction with “National Read an E-book Week,” and the release of the 2nd
generation of Amazon Kindle Smyrna-based publisher, Prestwick House, Inc., has
created a new line of e-books based on its best-selling Literary Touchstone Classic Editions. Over the last five years,
Prestwick House has become a leader in selling e-books in the educational
field, with over 1,000 different digital books in convenient, downloadable form.
E-books
are becoming increasingly more common in classrooms and are one of the fastest
growing product categories in educational publishing worldwide. E-book readers,
such as the new Kindle 2, are now equipped with new capabilities like being
able to take in-book notes, look up words in an online dictionary, and view web
content with new web browser capabilities — making the future of education seem
closer than ever.
“For teachers, digital
books pose a variety of benefits that paper and ink just can’t touch,” says
Prestwick House Production Manager, Jerry Clark.
“Besides the obvious
benefit of saving time by downloading one of our e-books immediately and
avoiding shipping costs, teachers will be able to create in-book notes for
specific classes, display them on overheads or Smartboards, and have students
look up background information directly from the web as they read.”
“Other benefits of
e-books for teachers include having their entire library available for easy
reference in class, along with digital files, such as a compilation of various
class syllabi, pertinent online articles, blogs, course packets, and teacher’s
editions of student textbooks”
Many e-book enthusiasts
think that Prestwick House has the right approach in converting popular titles
to e-book format because it is only a matter of time before technology and
educational resources come together in the classroom.
Gigi Reynard, author of
the E-Books
About Education Blog, agrees that, “Most students in elementary and
middle school right now have grown up with computers and the internet.…Using a
medium that youth are familiar with not only works with building upon prior
knowledge, but additional resources for enrichment and development of knowledge
are at their fingertips as well.”
For Prestwick House,
creating e-books from its existing line of Literary
Touchstone Classics is just a first step in the process of increasing the
company’s already established role in the e-book community.
“The Kindle format has
just become even more attractive for publishers and user with the launch of
their iPhone application,” says Prestwick House General Manager, Keith Bergstrom. “We believe that this will cement
the Kindle format’s place as a leader in e-book formats and make these books
even more popular.”
“In the future, we hope
to create more dynamic products specifically tailored to the e-book arena,”
says CEO Jason Scott. “Elements like a clickable table of contents, more
interactivity for use with whiteboards, and creating interrelated bundles of
e-books are just a few ways we hope to create products that make a teacher’s
job easier and more rewarding.”
