1984
Even though we are now more than twenty years past Orwell’s dystopian future, the prospect is still as real and disturbing for modern readers as it was when it was first published in 1949.
When I taught 1984, my 11th- and 12th-graders could easily relate to the satire, wordplay, and themes; some said that the novel was one of the best books they had read for school. With the themes of Orwell's prophetic masterpiece still relevant today, the book continues to be a favorite in schools.
