Free Character Map: The Scarlet Letter

A classic work of American literature, Nathaniel Hawthorne’s The Scarlet Letter captivated readers upon its publication in 1850. Set in the Puritan Massachusetts Bay Colony during the 1640s, the novel follows Hester Prynne, a woman who is scorned by the community after having a child born from an affair.

With this free printable character map, your students will explore the connections between Prynne, her long-lost husband, Roger Chillingworth, the town’s minister, Arthur Dimmesdale, and others. As your students read the book, have them take note of important facts and traits of each character.
