This fascinating books is modestly subtitled "An Attempt to Illustrate Some of the Differences Between Elizabethan and Modern English," and it does indeed offer considerable insight into passages from Shakespeare that are all but incomprehensible if we read them with a twenty-first-century understanding of grammar and syntax. While I wouldn't recommend this book for an eighth-grade class tackling Romeo and Juliet for the first time, it is certainly a "must" for twelfth-grade honors or Advanced Placement study of Shakespeare and his works.
